Industrial Action on Tuesday 5th July 2016
Following an official ballot, the National Union of Teachers intend to take industrial action on Tuesday 5th July. Teachers who are members of the NUT have a lawful right to take part in that action and many schools nationally and locally will be affected by the strike. As you can appreciate, the welfare and education of pupils is my major concern. So, I will need to put plans in place to cover health, safety and welfare responsibilities towards pupils. I have asked the staff concerned to confirm whether they intend to take strike action. Whilst they are not obliged to declare their intentions, they have done so.
During strike action, it is not lawful for an employer to engage temporary staff to cover the work. No supply staff can therefore be employed to cover the members who are on strike and no other teacher can be required to cover that work either. Therefore, it is my intention to close the school for some pupils.
On Tuesday 5th July the following classes will be closed:
Ladybirds Closed all day
Bumblebees Closed all day
1R Closed all day
4B Closed all day
If your child is in one of these classes, please do not send them to school on Tuesday 5th July.
