7 Schools 1 Ipswich Dance project

Our '7 Schools, 1 Ipswich' Dance Project that has been organised in conjunction with Dance East and Gecko, and funded by The Arts Council, is now underway. Both Year 4 classes are working with specialist dance teachers. During these sessions, the pupils are exploring dance, learning contemporary dance techniques and using these to choreograph a dance that will result in the making of a short film. Six other schools are taking part in the project.

The project will culminate in the seven schools coming together to perform a massed dance that will also be filmed. The films from all schools will be shown to all pupils involved and members of the community at Dance East on 1st July. Parents will be invited to watch the films on 5th July at St. Matthew’s CEVAP School. The Year 4 class teachers are using this project as professional development and will be disseminating their new knowledge and skills to other teachers in the school. We are already working with Dance East to consider how we can spread this practice across other schools and are hoping to attract further funding from an arts-based charity in the future, to enable more children to take part in similar exciting opportunities.
